Captain Seb Tarn
Player Name: Darren Mekwinski

Species: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 112lbs
Homeworld: Corulag

Physical Description: Seb is not the height of physical perfection. He is short, scrawny, with a face that, whilst not unpleasant to look at, seems to convey the darkness in his soul. He keeps himself in as good condition as he can, although he still walks with a limp from where a bullet shattered his right kneecap and was not properly treated. When in uniform he carries the traditional naval sabre and blaster pistol that most officers only carry on ceremonial duties. Off duty, which is a rarity, he wears rab comfortable clothes and is rarely noticed.

Background: Mal Evan was born to an affluent family on the core world of Corulag. As their only son he wanted for nothing throughout his childhood, but for all the attention and material goods he had, he never placed material goods before his family and friends. As a youngster he was a gifted student and a talented athlete. With his aristocratic bearing and pleasant disposition he was popular with almost everyone in his age group, as well as having an exceptional relationship with the teachers of his faculty. There were high expectations placed on the young Mal, and he strived to meet them. His father was an influential figure, and to help further enhance the family's standing Mal was guided towards a place at the Imperal naval academy on Carida. For all his talents, in his heart Mal felt that he wouldn't succeed at this, for he had real difficulty in following the beliefs of the Emperor Palpatine's new order. In order to try and improve his understanding of this ideal, he turned to his friend Seb Tarn.

Seb's father was a minor aristocrat, but Seb's academic skill and political ideologies had gained him a scholarship at the same institution that Mal attended. Despite the differnece in their backgrounds, the two became friends and seemed to compliment each other's natural abilities. Where Seb struggled with his athletics, mal coached him, and Seb was able to to introduce Mal to political ideology. Academically the two were matched, although Mal's relationship with the faculty gave him a slight edge. By helping each other, both were able to join the academy.

At the academy, Mal excelled himself. His tactical acumem along with his physical prowess marked him out as a high flying candidate for captaincy of a Star Destroyer. Seb struggled in command aptitude tests, and although he showed good tactical ability and a strong devotion to the new order, he was not considered to be a future warship captain by the 'old guard' instructors. His devotion to the new order may have garnered him a command, as more qualified officers were passed over for those who had political aspirations. Then came the news that the emperor had died at Endor, and able officers wer brought to the fore by Imperial forces desperate to halt the tidal wave of support for the burgeoning New Republic.

For the final year of their studies at the academy, the two young officer cadets were sent to serve at a remote posting on the outer rim to gain practical experience. Sent to their posting on a chartered passenger freighter, they were never to reach it. En route the liner was attacked by a privateer vessel. As the raiders boarded Seb and Mal joined the few security personnel to try and repel the attackers. Taking up position by the main hatchway, Mal and seb dropped the first attackers through the airlock. For a moment it appeared that they might be able to hold the attackers off, but then a slugthrower shell struck Seb in his knee. Seeing his friend and comrade fall, Mal threw himself atop his friend. Without his supressing fire the defenders were swiftly overun. Roughly manhandled and brought in front of the privateer captain the two were persuaded to remain with his crew. Seb could barely stand and would have died from boold loss, but Mal promised to serve the captain to the best of his ability if he would give his friend medical attention. A man of his word, Mal joined the crew and Seb's life was saved.

For all the distaste that he had for the privateer vessel, its crew, and its captain, Mal did what he could to fit in. Whilst at the academy he had been able to shield Seb from the worst of the bullying from cadets who gave from old vavy families, but aboard this vessel the ideological intellectual was soon the victim of bullying, ranging from verbal to occasional physical assaults. He was reduced to a servant, cleaning equipment for the officers. Mal was also singled out to start with, but after putting two attackers in the infirmary, he was accepted.

Gradually, over time, Mal started to listen to what the privateers were fighting for, and got to hear the truth about the New Order. He tried to bring this information to Seb, but his friend had withdrawn within himself and refused to listen. Mal rose to a trusted position as a member of the boarding crew, and started to believe that this was his place in life. Life has a way of taking this away from you though, and his life was to turn again.

The privateer's vessel, a modified Nebulon B Frigate was stalking a prize that would earn all aboard enough to end their current cruise. An Empress class super freighter carrying techican components, power cores, distribution nodes, all vital equipment to the New Republic's war effort. Jumping in on top of the ageing ship, the captain was horrified as two ships entered the area on an intercept course. The first, an Interdictor cruiser kept its distance, whilst the second a Victory II class Star Destroyer, closed with the heavily outgunned privateer vessel. The crew fanatically tried to outrun the oncoming warship, but Captain Treeve realised that he must escape. He headed to his private escape vessel, but paused to offer mal the chance to come with him. Mal wanted to find Seb, but he was not in his assigned area, so Mal, the captain and a handul of other officers headed to the escape shuttle. They had almost reached the door when footfalls were heard behind them. Turning, Mal saw a group of their men running after them. These were men whom Mal had no affinity with, killers who had signed on for profit, not for a cause. A brief firefight ensued, and in the cross fire the captain was hit. Dragging the man whom he had come to respect towards the hangar bay blast door, Mal was relieved to see Seb on the other side of the door as it opened. he briefly explained their situation, then glanced back down the corridor as he heard the gunfire getting closer.

The next thing he felt was the burning sensation of being hit in the chest by a high powered blaster. His eyes gazed up at his friend, and staring back were two pitliess orbs of pure hatred. He uttered the word 'why' and then passed away. Standing over the smouldering corpse, Seb Tarn gripped the decksweeper blaster even tighter. "All these long years you held me back. I was unfairly compared to you. I was more loyal, a better student, but your father did everything he could to sabotage my career. I wasn't your friend, you pitied me. Well now I am on top, and you die as you lived, a traitor to the New Order."

When the Imperial naval troopers stormed the ship they found the majority of the crew dead from sabotage to the ships enviromental controls. A small group were alive, led by a former final year naval cadet who had been kept a virtual prisoner. The Captain of the VSD Nightblade took the cadet aside and asked what should he do with those who had helped him capture the ship. The answer was simple. execute them as pirates and traitors. Seb was taken aboard the VSD, and when it returned to base, he was placed in the hands of ISB to determine his loyalty. he passed with flying colours, and was allowed to complete his training. His last act before starting duty was to denounce mal's parents as traitors, saying that their son had helped plan the original attack on the liner. They were 'disappeared' and Seb's own father was put in the role Mal's had occupied

The story of what he had done started to circulate throughout the squadron that he was assigned to, and divided support for him. The traditional naval officers frowed upon hi lack of honour and his underhandedness, whilst the idealists of the New Order held him up as a shining example of loyalty to the Empire above friendship. For his part, Seb played up this image unconsciously, and strove to become the epitomy of an officer of the New Order. He runs the ships he commands to the strictest letter of the regulations, and is only too happy to cooperate with ISB operations. Although this has shown his loyalty, it has impeded his career, as Fleet officers are unwilling to trust a man so loyal to ISB. The largest ship he has commanded is a Carrack Cruiser, and it is doubtful as to whether he could have the force of personality to command a Star Destroyer. Now his sponsors have managed to get him a place at the Imperial command war college, hoping that he will shine and give them a useful tool.

Move: 8 *

# Seb suffers a -1D penalty when dealing with 'old guard' naval characters due to the distrust that his reputation causes in them. It doesn't bother him, as he will soon ferret the out as traitors!

* Seb wears his knee injury as a symbol of his dedication. It was nevet repaired correctly and would take extensive expensive surgery to repair. If he suffers a complication whilst running then he causes further damage to the knee which reduces his move to 4 and means he has to make moderate stamina rolls to remain standing.

Equipment: Imperial Munitions KK-5 Blaster pistol. Imperial uniform with rank cylinder, comlink, naval saber (STR+1D), Blastech Firespray DL-87 decksweeper (kept in his quarters), 500 credits

Personality: Unfailingly polite to superiors, condescending to subordinates. Seb is dedicated to the ideals of the New Order. He hates the New Pepublic, but has a special loathing for traitors and pirates. He is hard and merciless as an opponent and a captain. He is dangerous because he know his limitations and is willing to be patient. He has no real personal life and no real friends, but that suits him fine, as long as he has his duty and a chance to destroy his enemies, which he sees everywhere. He has political ambition, and would enter a marriage to improve his social standing, and his own personal influence. he will use anyone and anything to further his own ends and suport the ideals he believes in.

Goals: Root out traitors and keep the ideals of the New Order alive. Increase in personal power so he can carry out palpatine's vision for the galaxy

OOC Notes: He ain't a nice man, and i intend to keep playing him like that. It is doubtful he would ever command anything as big as a VSD, but would suit either a Carrack, Strike or Interdictor Cruiser in his mind's eye. He is the sort of officer that would have done well if palpatine were alive, but under the Second Imperium needs the support of his sponsors to keep him where he is and gain any promotion
