Captain Rina Jazen (Yazen) Durasha
Player: Chris Brower

Gender/Species: Female/Human
Age: 28 yrs Ht: 5'8    Wt: 127lbs

Description: Green eyes, short dark brown hair, slender figure,
uniform is pressed and neat, hardly slouches.

Personality: Confident, compassionate, understanding, Rina loves her
crew and gets along with most everyone. Her green eyes betray an
innocence rarely seen in Imperial officers. As such, some may see an
opportunity to take advantage of her. They soon see that her loyalty and
knowledge make her a staunch opponent. She is also a formidable diplomat and
highly respected by those she commands. Rina emanates an air of happy
excitement which is somewhat contagious. This can cause resentment by
those no longer able to feel joy.

Objectives: She fulfills them everyday. To be among the great ships is
her reward. Rina works hard to be respected by her crew and superiors,
and she is conscious about it. She has accomplished her main goal of
serving in the fleet, so everything else is icing on the cake.

Equipment: Navy uniforms, code cylinders, blaster pistol, misc. personal items, 2000 Credits in account

Background:

Rina was born to a prominent family from the planet Endoraan. Endoraan
is the fifth planet in the Awtic system near the edge of the rim and
core worlds. The planet has one major continent that covers 3/8th the
surface. It is laced with rocky cliffs doted with the occasional white
sandy beach. Endoraan was initially established as a waypoint for
explorers and colonists seeking the riches of the rim. For a long time, it has
changed slightly to act as a checkpoint for many corporations
transporting their goods into and out of that section of the rim. As such, the
Imperial planners have placed a high value on keeping the system in its
folds. The citizens of Endoraan enjoyed the security and comforts
brought by the Empire and wholeheartedly embraced They're new sovereigns
when invited to join.  The temperature across most of the continent is
tropical, due to a non-changing axial rotation. As such, Endoraan has also
become a favorite vacation spot for those in space traveling into and
out of the rim. Many cruise starships make Endoraan a stop in their
journey.

Rina's father, Jaffers Durasha is a high councilman on the
Merchant's Forum, which served as the defacto ruling body of the planet. That
is until they accepted the invitation to join the Imperial framework. He
worked hard as a young man, starting as a janitor on the docked
freighters that transported the goods that serviced the rim worlds. He made
Chief Marchic (a CEO type position) in the Crase Corporation by the age
of 37. After several years in that position, the Imperial Governor,
Admiral Grasd, gave him an appointment to the Forum after Councilman Sef
Heirbon was caught selling transport schedules to a local pirate gang.
Heirbon was promptly executed in a highly publicized trial. Jaffers was
chosen due to his unwavering loyalty to the Imperial order, no matter
whom currently held the reins of power.

Her mother, on the other hand, is a quiet timid woman that lives in
a sort of dream world. When the Rebellion turned New Republic denounced
the Emperor's actions as atrocities, she adamantly refused to believe
it. She also made sure her two children also saw her view of the Empire
and it's leadership. She acts as the family's moral officer, keeping
everyone in high spirits no matter the situation.

Rina has a brother two years younger than her. Jace grew up as the
typical daredevil male. His father constantly preached the importance
of responsibility and consequence, and Jace always rebelled. Jaffers
always had high expectations for Rina's brother, since he was the eldest
male and would inherit all his father has worked hard for. Jace settled
his pressure with adrenaline. In school, he was the typical conformist.
He did well in sports, especially speedball, which was laced with a lot
of speed and coordination, as well as social organizations. When he was
old enough, Jace got a clerk job and bought an old racing
swoop from a frequently visiting freighter captain. His mother, was not
very happy to say the least. His dad, however, approved since it was
earned through many months' hard work. Jaffers kept his mother in check
on this issue, and it helped bridge a gap between the two. When Jace
announced his intentions to join the Imperial Navy, everyone was
ecstatic. Proudly, the elder Durasha announced to everyone he knew
about the decision Jace had made, and bragged about 'his son, the Captain
of a Star Destroyer'. Jace was congratulated by everyone on the planet,
it seemed. Rina was so proud of her brother when he shipped out for the
Academy. Maybe they would serve together, she thought.

Our hero had a safe and happy childhood. Not wanting for anything,
she excelled in her school work and showed an aptitude for math and
science early on. Like many girls her age, she played Terr ball (a sport
like soccer named after the sound the ball made when kicked just right).
She was never as good at sports as her brother, but she was better at
fixing things. This is where the true bond between them grew. When Jace
needed something fixed, tied, or running correctly, he knew his big
sister could do it. This skill was a butt of light jokes from Rina's
friends, since she sometimes preferred to study or tear something apart to
see how it worked than to dress up, go shopping, and other things that a
teenage human female generally liked to do. She was always excited by
the flurry of transports and cargo ships that came to the capital city
daily was absolutely beside herself whenever an Imperial Warship arrived
into orbit. Rina would spend hours staring through macrobinoculars at
the behemoths in orbit. One day, her father surprised her with a shuttle
trip up to the Imperial Dreadnought Extinguisher. She was in awe from
the time the ship came into view. The whole trip she walked around
quietly with her mouth hanging wide open. She never saw anything so
beautiful in her life. The bristling guns and the powerful engines were more
than she could stand. She let out a great squeal of joy when she got onto
the bridge. The Extinguisher's commanding officer, Captain Reg Herit,
went to school with her father, and was thrilled at the younger
Durasha's excitement. After that visit, she had, as detailed as she could get,
schematics of the great ship pinned on the wall next to her Pee-Wee
Boys poster (the current teenage heartthrob band). From that time on, and
throughout her schooling, she studied as much engineering as possible;
it was her destiny calling and she knew it. To hone these skills, she
volunteered her services to Jace. Together, they were a formidable race
team, and won several events. Jace would ride and tell Rina what he
felt, and she corrected it.

After school was completed, Rina went to the local University and
studied engineering. In this world, it was almost more than she could
handle. The advanced sciences and math almost killed her, and she came
home after each semester crying. While at home, she was comforted by her
mother, and her father took her on several other trips to the Imperial
starcraft that came to their world. He saw his daughter's determination
and resolve, and kept her ever looking at her dream. It took six long
years, one more than normal, but she made it! Finally, she graduated
with a degree in Capital Ship engineering. It was a proud day for the
entire family.

A few days later, Jace announced his application to the Imperial
Academy. It seemed as nothing could be more perfect for Jaffers. Several
months passed, and Rina dreamed about the stars. The next morning, she
came down to the table for the ritual morning breakfast. "Pop", she
started cautiously. "I know you are proud that Jacey is joining the
Fleet", she ventured. "Um hmm", Jaffers said reading his newspad while
stuffing his breakfast down. "So, I was thinking", she
continued "you remember when you took me on the Extinguisher?" "Yeah",
her father said hitting the button to refresh the screen. "Well, you
saw how I liked it and all", she continued fumbling for the right words.
"Looking up from his news, Jaffers said briskly, "Go ahead, pumpkin.
Spit it out". He is a man of few words. "I'd like to go to the academy!"
Rina stated with meaning. Her father just looked at her for what seemed
to Rina as forever, gazing into her eyes for confirmation. He must have
saw what was looking for, because his only answer was, "Alright."
"That's it?!" Rina said to herself. "No disapproval? No excuses as to why
not?". Her look gave away her emotions. "Look Rina", Jeffers continued,
"Military service is honorable." A smile broke his stern face. "You
graduated from a tough school. You know a Dreadnought better than Reg
(remembering his classmate). I don't see a problem with it." With that, the
discussion was closed, and Rina was an ecstatic woman. Finally, her
dreams would come true!

At the tender age of 23, Rina set off on her grand adventure. That
morning, she marched down to the local Imperial Recruiting office and
proceeded with a barrage of questions. The elder officer in charge of
Naval recruiting fielded the questions as fast as he could, but just
wasn't able to keep up. Smiling the whole time at this girls overwhelming
excitement, they came to the conclusion. She was signed up that day. The
veteran recruiter informed Rina that she didn't need to go to the
academy, since she graduated from an Imperial Approved college. She only had
to attend a 13 week training course for the basics. She left 2 weeks
later, ahead of her brother who was having difficulty getting into the
academy.

After the Officer Training course on Cardia, Rina was sent to her
first command, the Interdictor Cruiser ENTRENCHED. The next year would
prove very exciting for the young officer, since Grand Admiral Thrawn
would return from the deep rim. Many supplies for the Admiral passed
through Endoraan, and Rina was excited to be directly serving the hero.
During this action, she studied and worked hard to get as knowledgeable as
possible on her ship. The Commanding Officer, Captain Fres Weker, was
adored by his crew for the compassion he showed them. He insisted that
everyone know someone else's job, and officers needed to know a little
about everyone's. This tactic saved the ENTRENCHED several times in the
heat of combat. Through this cross training, Rina was able to qualify
Bridge Officer and Gunnery Officer, among others. This elated the
Endoraan, and she soaked up everything she could about her new home. In the
two years following, Rina earned the promotion to Lieutenant and the
duties of Assistant Engineering Officer (Propulsion). She served in this
capacity until word came from Naval Command for her transfer.

To Rina's delight, she was offered the position of Chief
Engineering Officer of the Strike Cruiser DOMINANT. This included another
promotion to Lt. Commander. Back home on Endoraan, Jaffers was beside himself.
His son had finally entered the academy, and his daughter was an
Engineering Officer of a main warship. His prestige in the community grew,
and he was so proud Rina found her dream.

The blue swirl that indicated hyperspace gave way to a billion
pinpoints of light as the transport shuttle entered the Ord Trasi system.
The grand planet with it's orbital shipyards could be seen from the
passenger's portals. The shuttle banked around the shipyards and Rina got a
clear view of her new home docked at one of the service stations. The
shuttle sped passed the Dominant and landed in a hangerbay within the
main complex. From there, the young Endoraan boarded a smaller ship that
ferried her to the Strike Cruiser. Crossing through the docking tunnel
to the ship, Rina was greeted by the Executive Officer, Commander
Greftor Nermat, a man in his 30's with dark brown hair, pressed uniform, and
a disapproving stare. Nermat had served aboard the Executor as a junior
officer during the battle of Endor. As his luck would have it, he was
right next to an escape pod when the fighter penetrated the behemoth's
bridge. He escaped and was later picked up by a Star Destroyer before
they jumped out of the system. He was arrogantly convinced it was his
destiny to survive. Commander Nermat wasn't thrilled to have an Engineer
with only 3 years experience, and less thrilled with it being a woman.
Rina saluted as best she could and caught the scowled return. "The
Captain wants to see you as soon as you're aboard", he stated coldly, "and
that would be now."  With that the XO spun on his heels and marched off
at a brisk pace that Rina could hardly keep up with, laden with all her
gear. Reaching the CO's cabin, the Commander knocked three times on the
door. "Enter" was heard and the XO opened the door and sped in leaving
Rina to navigate the narrow opening on her own. "The new Engineer is
here", the XO said coldly. The ship's captain was a stocky man in his mid
30's as well. He had a worn face and reddish brown hair neatly cropped.
Gesturing to the chair in front of his desk, the CO said, "That'll be
all, XO. Please, sit."  Rina dropped her gear and sat quietly. "I knew
your father", the Captain said. "That's great, sir.", Rina replied not
sure how to respond. "I'm Captain Gerals Dreger." he stated. Rina
thought for a moment, and then recognized the name. "Yes, I remember my
father mentioning you!", she said with excited revelation. "You were in
command of the first Imperial task force to visit Endoraan. I can't wait to
tell him you are my CO." Smiling, the Captain said, "I hear your
brother, Jace is doing quite well in the Starfighter Corps."   "What??", Rina
asked with great surprise. "Jace is in Fleet Command, I thought." Rina
tried to analyze the info she was just given. Confused, Gerals stated,
"No, he's in Phoenix Wing aboard the Star Destroyer VICTORIOUS. Jaffers
must be extremely proud." "Oh..I must have been mistaken. I apologize.
Yes sir, I'm sure he is.", Rina said absent mindedly, putting her
brother's scheme together. The CO smiled, "It's great to have you aboard,
Lt. Commander." With that, he held out his hand for her to shake. She
took it and shook back. "Thank you, sir.", she stated. As she grabbed her
bags to leave, Rina turned back to her new CO. "Sir," she started, "I
get the feeling the XO doesn't like women." "Commander Nermat is like
that", he said in a fatherly tone. "I'm sure you two will get along
fine." "Yes sir!" Rina said and left the cabin.

As time passed, Rina and the XO did not get along. In fact, they
had many disagreements. It seems Commander Nermat is an engineer as well,
an engineer that likes things his way. The XO even tried to bring the
Chief Engineer up on charges once, which were unsubstantiated. The
Captain dropped them. There was no love lost between the two. Contrary to
that, Rina got along extremely well with those she commanded. Being
fairly new at this game and having been accelerated into her command, Rina
still remembered what it was like to be in their position. She was very
fair and forgiving, and the young Engineer went to bat on several
occasion for her charge's well being. This was also a source of friction
between her and the XO. Two years passed, as Rina was about to face her
greatest challenge to date. The DOMINANT was ordered to transport and
support a SpecForce team to Filve where a Republic Base had been recently
established. The DOMINANT entered the system fairly close to an
asteroid belt near the planet. "Adjust course to hug the edge of the belt."
Dregar ordered. The ship came dangerously close to the asteroids as it
crept ever closer to the planet. When they were within orbit, the Captain
instructed, "Launch the shuttles and the Interceptors and commence the
orbital bombardment of the set civilian targets." Majestically, the
small craft left the hangerbay and moved toward a rendezvous point. Once
formed up, the group headed toward the planet.
Suddenly, an alarm sounded on the bridge. "Sir," a junior officer said
excitedly, "there are several fighter squadrons approaching from the
belt!" "Evasive action, all hands go to full alert!" the CO yelled. "Sir,
the fighters are requesting permission to engage," the communications
officer reported. "Negative, " the captain bellowed, "instruct the
fighters to see the dropships safely to their destination, then return to
engage." "Aye sir" the officer replied. The XO gave the captain a mixed
surprised and disagreeing look. Two squadrons of B-Wing fighters closed
on the cruiser's position. Once in range, the fighters open fired with
everything they had. Volleys of torpedoes hit the DOMINANT. Shuddering
with the impact, the ship seemed to lurch and rock. Rina was busy
barking orders and trying to get a good picture on what was going on in her
engineering section. The ship's shields were out, as well as many
auxiliary systems. Rina fought hard to keep the main engines online as ion
energy caressed across the ship. "If the mains go down," she thought to
herself, "we're all dead". Another crash indicated the successful
attack of another torpedo swarm. The DOMINANT's guns flashed at the
onslaught. Green bolts filled the area in the direction of the on coming
fighters. Several B-Wings blazed into a bright death as the crew hit their
mark. "Helm, get us toward the jump point!", the CO shouted above the din
of battle. "Sir, shields are down!" an officer reported. "Engineering,
we need those shields back, NOW!", the XO screamed into the com-unit.
"Aye Aye, sir", was Rina's only response. "Jeez", she thought to
herself, "like I have nothing to do!". Hwuren, get a team and get those
shields back up!", Rina ordered her Assistant. Another round of blaster fire
from the elusive fighters knocked out auxiliary power and part of life
support. Rina dispersed her teams with great skill. She managed to have
the right people on the right jobs. The battle raged on as the Strike
Cruiser slowly plodded to it's exit point from the sector. One of the
DOMINANT's gunners pierced an incoming B-Wing causing it to ignite in a
ball of flame. As fate would have it, the out of control fighter
barreled straight for the cruiser's bridge. Commander Nermat, standing next to
the main view port staunchly sure he could not be hurt, was the only
one to see the incoming wreckage. His eyes opened wide as the metal
penetrated the plexi-glass and ignited the entire bridge into a ball of
flame which quickly extinguished in the vacuum of space. Rina felt a huge
lurch which shook the foundations of the ship. "Gods, what was that!",
she thought to herself as several crew members voiced the same concern.
Flicking the comm-unit, Rina yelled into it, "Bridge, Engineering." The
only reply was static. "Bridge, Engineering!", she repeated. "Crap!,"
the Endoraan exclaimed, "DC team 3. Send a team to the bridge and
investigate comm failure." "Yes sir!", came the reply. Several moments later,
"Engineering, Team 3. Theres nothing left, ma'am!", came the answer.
"What do you mean, 3?", Rina said in a concerned tone. "The bridge is
gone! There is a huge hole where the Front window was! Theres nothing in
there that's not fixed down ma'am. No one is in there, either. They've
all been sucked out.",
said the fear stricken crew member. The bridge was charred black, the
decks and consoles melted due to the blast. Rina thought for half a
second, then keyed the comm-unit. "This is the engineer", she said trying
to sound confident. "The Bridge has been smashed. The CO and XO are
presumed dead. I am taking control. If either are still aboard, contact
main engineering." A thought flashed across Rina's mind of what the XO
would say if he showed up. Shaking her head to clear it, she turned back
to the comm-unit. "Auxiliary Navigation, you now have direct control.
Set course...'" she paused to open a starchart tucked into away in a box,
"...217 by 119 by 34. Comm Room, get me our fighters!" A reply of
acknowledgement was received by Navigation. The B-Wings pressed their attack
as another round of red destruction struck the hurting vessel. Rina
tried desperately to keep the crew focussed on their jobs and bellowed
orders to all sections. Several of the fighters had been destroyed, but
not enough. A sheet of ion blue smashed the engines and half the mains
gave up under the strain. With only half the power, the DOMINANT slowed
to a crawl, still 40 Units from safety. Rina prayed silently, and she
thought of her family one last time. As if the force was listening, her
comm-unit crackled to life. "DOMINANT, this is Grek Squadron, permission
to engage!" Cheers rang out through the Engineroom at the sound of
hope. "Permission granted, Major! Get us clear!", Rina said relived into
the comm. The TIE Interceptors jumped the B-Wings and with the remaining
cruiser's batteries downed several, before they broke off and headed
away. As they disengaged, the other main engines came on line. After
recovering the fighters, the DOMINANT jumped into hyperspace. The familiar
blue swirl looked inviting, indeed.

The DOMINANT arrived at Elrood, severely damaged but repairable.
There was no fanfare or crowd to meet the beleaguered crew. When she
docked, the defacto Captain was greeted by an Admiral. Seeing her superior,
Rina snaped to attention and salutes. "At ease, Commander.", the
Admiral stated. "Thank you, sir", replied Rina. The Admiral started walking
with the Engineer in tow. "You had quite an action. In case you were
wondering, the SpecForce mission went well.", he said in a reassuring
voice. The Admiral continued, "You did a fine job in taking command and
pulling the ship through. Your report and those of your crew are very
impressive. The Empire needs quick thinkers that can handle bad
situations." Rina wondered where the Admiral was going with his statements. She
nodded periodically showing her interest in what he said. Reaching an
office, the Admiral keys a pad and the door slides open. He motions her
through the door, and he follows her in. "Can I get you something?" he
says heading to a pot of mocha brewing on a table. "Yes, thank you", Rina
replied gladly accepting the Senior's homebrew. "Commander, I'll get to
the point. You have been recommended for a command position, if you
want it. There are strings attached, however.", the Admiral said noticing
the Endoraan's face light up. "You never did go through the Academy on
Cardia due to your previous education. Therefore, I'm offering you a
choice. Oversee the repair of DOMINANT and stay on as her Chief Engineer,
accept a transfer to the INDOMITABLE a Star Destroyer as Chief
Engineer, or go through the academy as a cadet then accept a starship command
of your own. I warn you, the command may be something small like a
Corvette or Gunship." The Admiral sat back in his comfortable tall-backed
black leather chair behind his desk. Rina
thought for a couple moments then said, "Sir, if I may, I'd like to
accept the academy appointment." With that, the Admiral smiled, "Good.
You'll have your orders by the end of the week." "Yes, sir.", Rina said
jubilantly. She sprung out of the chair, and stood at attention. Spinning
on her heels, she left the grand office. Once outside and the door
shut, she leapt into the air and squealed loudly, "YES!!". The Admiral
smiled at the sound penetrating his door.
