Captain Kurrs Arjek
Player:
Homeworld:
Species: Human
Sex: Male
Age: 30
Height: 2.5 m
Weight: 98 kg
Physical description:
At seven feet tall Anjek could
be considered imposing. If his bulk matched his height that is. At only 98 Kilograms he is exceptionally thin and looks
almost malnourished. His skin is
stretched close to his bones and skull, scalp shaved clean of any hair.
His dark green eyes seem to be almost recessed into his head peering out
from behind a pair of glasses. His
skin is unnaturally white. Pale and
sallow skinned he looks as though he spent his life in some sort of cave, never
receiving enough sunlight.
Many people consider him to look like Death personified.
His voice is deep and resounding. It
can warp itself from being warm and cheerful, bestowing praise and encouragement
with such emotion that it can drive a crew to do great things.
But also it can fill with such venom and spite that it can cow even the
most hardened Stormtrooper. He can
instill fear in the hearts of entire starship crews with a few words.
His voice can radiate the heat of Tatooine, or chill like the winds of
Hoth.
Personality:
Anjek is a realist. He
understands the nature of warfare well. He
also understands the nature of people. Both Humans...and aliens.
Anjek is no racist. He does
not hate aliens, but he does not love them either.
Just as he neither loves nor hates Humans.
He understands the need to use any creature to further his goals.
Human or alien. He could
just as easily feed a starving alien city as he would feed a starving human
city. His own level headed
nature allows him some degree of control when other officers would act rashly
out of their indoctrination
He is quiet, controlled and for the most part constrained when it comes
to outward displays of emotion. He
spends more time thinking and considering what he will do than acting.
This trait has made sure he's come out on top when many of his opponents
have become monuments on past battlefields.
Anjek is an open person. He
can be personable and gregarious when he wants to.
He can be the life of a party or celebration if he wants.
But to him it's all an elaborate act to give him strength and control.
But Anjek always uses his abilities to further the power and strength of
the New Order. He never uses that control when it serves only himself.
Kurrs Anjek always considers that a badge of supreme pride.
When so many of the Moffs and Warlords considered serving the Emperor a
pursuit of personal power. Anjek
used manipulation of others to further the goals of the New Order.
Kurrs has long since decided that his actions help to balance out the
universe somewhat.
Quote: "Do you really think
that? Or is that what I want you to
think?"
Objectives: To do his job and end
this senseless Rebellion and it's bloodshed.
Equipment: Imperial Munitions Heavy blaster pistol (5D+1), Imperial Uniform, Rank Cylinder, Intricately Carved Grell Wood Cane (Str+1), Pipe, Brentalli Tobacco, Glasses, Datapad, datacards (with multiple books and texts on them, including copies of the Tarkin Doctrine, Grand Admiral Thrawn's campaigns, and Commander Pter Thanas's military history to name a mere few), Comlink.
Background:
Anjek Family Line-
The Anjek family lineage is a long and proud one.
Steeped in military service, honor and nobility.
Able to trace it's family line for over six thousand years.
Hundreds of thousands of Anjeks served in the Army and Navy of the Old
Republic. Their line included many
distinguished warriors and commanders. They even had the honor of saying that
Admiral Dodonna, Commander of the Republic Fleet at the Battle of the Star Forge
during the Sith War was a part of their line. Prestigious Naval Admirals were Anjeks. Premier Army Generals were Anjeks. Great instructors at the Caidian academy were Anjeks.
They were one of the premier ˜Old Military' families of Caidia.
At the rise of the Empire the Anjek line did not consider it an upheaval
and overthrow of a legitimate government. Rather
to them it was the natural progression of politics. The Anjeks had seen planetary governments rise and fall
during their lineage. To them the
fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire was a natural progression.
For the Anjeks the Empire was another military to serve, and they were
quite willing to do so. For quite
some time the Anjeks had been rather annoyed at the declining respect the senate
had for the Army and the Navy. The
Empires own drive for military strength had met with great approval from the
Anjeks.
Before the rise of the Empire only one thing ever brought the Anjeks some
depression and slight shame. The
lack of ever producing a great Jedi, or any Jedi at all.
For some reason the Anjek line seemed to be devoid of any chance of Jedi
coming from it.
But, this shame became a badge of pride during the Jedi Purges.
The Anjeks could say that they had never produced any of the
untrustworthy or evil Jedi.
Kurrs Anjek-
A Caidian born and bred Kurrs Anjek was born 21 years before the battle
of Yavin. He was the fourth of
seven brothers and five sisters. A
large family, although strict and highly regimented.
Anjeks were always introduced into military life as early as possible,
which meant a strict family life. But
his family was not a cold and distant one.
In fact, it was probably warmer and closer than most.
Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Nephews and Nieces were all considered to be
close family in the Anjek line. This
was probably due to the fact that most of the family was away with the fleet or
army, so family was family and they stuck together.
He was born during what some could consider the height of popularity for
the Empire. During the period of time that the Old Republic was
recognized by all for what it was, a stagnant bureaucracy that merely
perpetuated and supported the degradation of the Galaxy.
He was born when Emperor Palpatine had started to forge his New Order.
A man of action, a man of power and drive, the Emperor was exactly the
type of person that the Galaxy needed to restore a sense of purpose to the
people.
But before the dark times.
Before the oppression of Aliens. Before
the great purges of the Jedi Knights. Before
the dissolving of the Senate.
Before the Rebellion.
Kurrs Anjek spent the first few years of his life doing something that
almost every child was doing. Idolizing
the Emperor and the New Order as saviors of the galaxy.
For Young Kurrs Anjek his goal in life became the service of the New
Order. It had always been decided
that he would join the military, have that there was no doubt for an Anjek.
With the rise and strengthening of the New Order, Caidia became a major
military training facility. Up
until age 10 Anjek spent most of his time war-gaming with his younger brothers
and sisters. He led a good life, waiting for his chance to enlist with the
Military
After age 10 the difficult times began...
A division began to grow within the Anjek family.
Started by one of Kurrs Anjek's cousins, Vallin Complin, several members
of the family were discontented by the actions of the New Order.
Complin's brother was killed during a training mission and he was
vengeful over that fact. Complin
began to try and convince the rest of the family that the New Order was wrong
and should not be obeyed. He was
partially successful.
Three of his older brothers, one of his sisters, and eight of his cousins
left Caidia.
And joined the Rebellion.
It was a dark time for the Anjeks. They
were shamed by it. Twelve of their
own were traitors to the New Order. They
had failed in their role as loyal servants to the Empire.
It was a dark cloud that hung over them.
But the Anjeks were strong. They
fought back over their kin's betrayal and treason.
Every single one of the remaining children joined the Sub-Adult Group of
COMPNOR. 23 of Kurrs Anjek's
cousins and 2 of his brothers became Stormtroopers.
His other two brothers became Storm Commandos.
His four sisters became Naval Officers.
Almost 40 of his other Cousins became COMPForce Assault Troopers. Five
other Cousins became Army Officers.
The Anjeks were compensating for their treachery with as many loyal
soldiers as they could. Yet the Empire never came down on their family with as harsh
a hand as they might have. COMPNOR
did not arrive and arrest them all. They were not placed under ISB
investigation. No, all of the
joining the Imperial Army, Navy, COMPForce, and the Stormtroopers was
self-imposed.
Kurrs Anjek enlisted with the Imperial Naval Academy at age 16.
His family influence managed to get him placement, even after his abysmal
performance in the physicals. That
was the only limiting factor with Kurrs Anjek's entry.
He just could not perform to the levels expected.
And he had even joined the Navy specifically for the more lenient
physical requirements. Although his
ideological and intelligence exams pushed him far enough forward in the grades
that little ˜persuasion' was needed for his entry.
Throughout his Academy training Anjek had only one problem.
Physical training. He was
not built like a COMPForce Assault trooper.
He was built like a skeleton with skin stretched over it.
And he barely survived his academy years. The training was hard. It
was arduous and extreme. His family
had to flex a lot of leverage to keep him in.
Anjek knew this. He knew that he was weak.
But he knew that his strength would never be his body.
It was his mind.
Kurrs Anjek was a student of Tactics, and a master of manipulation and
control. To argue any opposing
point would be foolhardy.
His tactical abilities and command talent were unparalleled during his
time in class. Many of his
instructors considered him to be a Savant in the tactical realm.
His ability to manipulate the course of battles was considered by a few
of his instructors to be supernatural. More
than one of his fellow students would mutter that ˜going up against him is
suicide' before a simulation as his opponent.
This uncanny ability to command earned him a rare privilege, coupled with
his family influence he was transferred to several other of the main training
academies to learn. Despite the
black mark that his family had he was granted a high honor...
He was schooled by Stormtrooper officers in the finer points of their
combat style. This was a very rare
honor for a non-Stormtrooper to experience. Such an event would be unheard of
for other students, but Kurrs Anjek was a special case.
He learned the tactics of ground assaults, how to subjugate cities and
entire planets with ground troops. The
Imperial Army was a comprehensive organization, but he was instructed by some of
the best ground commanders in the Academy.
He was taught in Guerilla warfare; terrorism and fear tactics, how to sow
discontent and fear through an entire population through psychological
manipulation and Psy-Ops warfare. He
was instructed in the methods of fear and unrest by the Imperial Storm Commando
Academy.
Kurrs Anjek could be considered one of the great minds of the Imperial
military; a brilliant tactician, a man who could draw on the knowledge of almost
any facet of the imperial military. His
training was extensive and could be rivaled by very few.
And yet, with all this tactical and strategic training, with this focus
on all aspects of military combat and command, Kurrs Anjek chose a rather
unexpected specialty.
Psychological Warfare.
In his eyes the Empire had enough Admirals and Lords, enough commanders
for its forces, enough soldiers in its ranks.
But, it did not have men like him. It
did not have men that worked to control the enemy’s minds and wills.
The Empire had many with his abilities.
Too many in fact, but those that had his talents used them for their own
personal gain. He wanted to use his
abilities for the service of the New Order.
Hence, it was his goal to become a student of Psychological warfare. This
was naturally in addition to the normal training he received in his academy
training, and his advanced tactical training with the other academies.
It was difficult; there was no doubt about that.
Yet, for another student such a task would be considered impossible.
But he persevered. He did not quit. Such
thoughts never entered his mind during the sleepless nights and endless hours of
studying.
He was an Anjek, and he would never be the one to bring more shame upon
his proud family.
The day of Kurrs Anjek's academy graduation was forever etched in his
mind; along with the minds of every single imperial citizen.
His class graduated the day of the Battle of Yavin.
It was one of the most horrible moments for the Anjek family.
The family lost 23 sons and four daughters on the Death Star.
To Kurrs personally, it meant that he lost two of his elder brothers, two
men that he aspired to follow in life. But they were killed by the rebels,
along with over a million other loyal soldiers, crewmen, pilots, and
stormtroopers. All murdered in one single moment by a single pilot.
To the Anjek family it was murder, not war. They could handle war, the
family had long since learned to deal with deaths in war....
....but one million killed by a single pilot.
That was murder. Mass
murder.
To the Anjeks it was pain.
To Kurrs, it was the moment he swore that the vile, murdering rebels
would pay. The petty ideals that
they held of ˜freedom for all' and ˜rid the galaxy of tyranny' to Kurrs those
were merely lies. To him no ideal
called for such a brutal mass murder in moments.
Kurrs Anjek vowed that he would see the end of the Rebellion, which he
would crush it and stop all the senseless slaughter that it was causing.
Kurrs Anjek's first assignment was to the Lorinar Strike Cruiser Fervent
assigned to patrolling the Outer Rim territories.
It was a dull job. The only interesting things that happened were the
occasional smuggler and pirate. Kurrs was furious over his assignment.
Not only was he doing nothing, he wasn't even working in his field of
specialty. At his first chance he
threw his families political and military influence around.
Unfortunately, it didn't work.
The Anjek family had used up their skifter chips getting Kurrs through
the academy. He was on his own.
Kurrs did not appreciate being trained to such a degree in Psychological
Warfare. Garnering so much
experience with all branches of the Imperial Military, to merely be a bridge
officer for a Strike Cruiser patrolling the Outer Rim.
But he grudgingly trudged on through his assignment.
He did not love it. He despised it.
His bridge crewmates were foolish drones.
His commanding officer was so inept he would lose an engagement with a
stunned Bantha as his opposing commander.
But he served the Empire. And
the empire decreed that he serve on a Strike Cruiser patrolling the outer rim
and serving underneath a fool.
Alas, natural selection is an interesting device.
It especially speeds up in combat, and yet slows down during peace.
Thankfully, natural selection kicked in rather forcefully in a single
engagement.
His Captain decided to take on two Rebel Corellian Corvettes and a
supporting fighter wing.
Despite orders allowing him to withdrawal, or call in reinforcements, the
Captain decided to engage the enemy vessels.
Unfortunately for the Captain, the Corvettes were rather up-gunned from a
dockyard fresh style of vessel. Boasting
enough firepower to make a Victory Star Destroyer pause for a few moments, each
rebel ship packed a wallop. Along
with the accompanying Z-95 Headhunters it was enough to make most commanders shy
off.
Sane, sensible, competent commanders that is.
The Captain decided to take on both ships with just a single Tie
squadron, which he decided not to launch. The
Captain then decided to take on the fighters with his turbolasers and merely
ignore the Corvettes for a moment. This
resulted in nearly 200 crewman dying after the forward shields were hammered
down and the hull was heavily damaged.
After this event, most commanders would retreat and try to get their crew
and ship out in one piece. Most
commanders.
The Captain decided to go down fighting.
Even though his hyperdrive was operational, main engines were also
operational, and navigation had plotted several escape vectors.
The Captain fought on in what was becoming a fast one sided battle.
The multiple breaches of command, and tactical failure on the part of the
Captain was going to doom the crew and the ship to death, destruction,
imprisonment or capture.
But, divine providence saw fit to intervene for the crew of the Fervent.
A Z-95 strafed the bridge and shattered the main viewport.
For a few moments the entire bridge was blasted into cold vac.
Surprisingly only one man died, sucked into vac.
The Captain. The rest of the bridge crew was strapped into their console
chairs for the fight.
The momentary loss of atmosphere was corrected when an emergency shield
snapped into place and the bridge was once again a breathable space.
The entire bridge crew was disoriented.
For Kurrs Anjek this was enough. He
needed to save this ship, his ship; his crew.
He took command of the Fervent.
He was not taking command of an Imperial Class Star Destroyer with a
crack crew that was driven with a fervor that could not be matched by a
rampaging Rodian swamp Ghest.
He was assuming command of a ship that was heavily damaged.
Its crew was on the verge of a rout.
He had minimal weapons, weakened shields, and a battered hull.
But he fought. By now he had no choice.
The Rebels had knocked out his hyperdrive and his auxiliary.
Any reinforcements would arrive too late.
He had to fight. Otherwise
his crew would die.
His first order was to drop the nose of the cruiser down 90 degrees,
bringing the dorsal shielding to bear on the enemy.
His second order was to launch all TIE Fighters to attack the Z-95
His third was to open fire on the Rebel ships.
The bridge crew looked at him for half a heartbeat before carrying out
their orders. With such
determination that Kurrs thought his entire bridge crew had changed.
It was in that split second that he realized the power that he had.
His training taught him how to manipulate his crewmen and the enemy.
Gave him the ability to win battles.
To win wars...
Kurrs Anjek changed that battle from a near sure rout to a decisive
victory. He annihilated both Rebel
Corvettes and decimated the Z-95 headhunters. Of the 238 crewmen killed during
the battle, only 22 were killed during the two hour battle that commenced once
Kurrs took control of the Fervent.
To Kurrs it was a moment of pride, of revelation to his purpose.
To High command, it was just another skirmish against the Rebels.
But it was enough; enough to get him a promotion and a transfer to a real
ship. It was shortly before the
Battle of Endor that he finally got transferred to his assignment and as such,
the main body of the Imperial Fleet.
His transfer was to the Imperial Star Destroyer Chimaera.
Kurrs arrived aboard the Chimaera as it waited in orbit with the rest of
the Imperial fleet at Endor. He was
slightly surprised at the fact that the entire fleet was lying in wait around
such an undeveloped forest moon. To
him it seemed to be a substantial waste of resources.
But, word travels fast in the fleet, and before he had unpacked his gear
he'd learned the true reason for the fleet's presence.
They were going to destroy the Rebel fleet.
Finally crush it and finish off the Rebels.
For Kurrs it was going to be retribution for all the suffering and shame
his family had gone through. He
prepared himself for what he decided was to be the final battle.
It was a week in coming, but the Rebel fleet arrived and the battle
was joined.
Battle by it's nature is a wild, mostly uncontrollable or understandable
event. It writhes and shifts.
The Admirals and Captains of the Imperial fleet could barely understand
it. Yet Kurrs was manning the
sensor station on the bridge of the Chimaera and he had what could be described
as the best seat for the show. He
watched as the Rebel fleet emerged from Hyperspace.
He watched as they walked directly into the trap the Emperor had so
artfully laid for them. He watched
as the Rebel fleet was fully engaged with the superior Imperial forces. Watched as the Death Star opened fire
But then it stopped being a show.
As did every other member of the fleet he watched as a single kamikaze
A-wing fighter destroyed the Super Star Destroyer Executor.
That one man took another 300,000 souls to their deaths alone.
That does not include the casualties inflicted by the loss of the second
Death Star, and the deaths of over 10 Star Destroyer crews.
Kurrs witnessed Captain Pellaeon's historic order to retreat from the
battle. Kurrs held no anger towards
the man for retreating from the battle. The
entire Imperial fleet's morale was shattered.
The Emperor was dead. Admiral
Piett was dead. There was no more
cohesion for the Imperial forces. The
only thing that Captain Pellaeon was retreating from was more senseless
slaughter and defeat, not a stirring victory.
But that day was a turning point; the point that the Rebels had the
initiative, the Imperial fleet was shattered.
Their morale was non-existent and all they could do was try to hold
together. Kurrs watched as the
empire was slowly disintegrated. For
Kurrs it was more painful than if it had all suddenly ended at Endor as the
Rebel propaganda harped.
But Kurrs Anjek did not desert. He
did not run off to join one of the numerous warlords.
He didn't contemplate trying to seize control of the Chimaera, nor did he
even think of how to take control of the entire empire.
He observed as the Grand Admirals were hunted down one by one by the
Rebels and killed. As slowly, the
Rebels were picking the Imperial fleet apart.
He watched as the Core Worlds fell.
Ysanne Isard allowed Coruscant to fall.
Warlord Zsinj helped to drive the Empire further apart.
But Anjek did not falter; he was loyal, he was determined.
Captain Pellaeon was a competent commander.
He worked hard to hold the remnants of the empire together.
He managed well enough. But,
it wasn't the leadership of Captain Pellaeon that kept him going.
It wasn't out of pure loyalty.
It was a feeling...a...gut instinct that something was going to happen.
That someone was going to come and pull the Empire back together. Even though by
all rights such a task would be impossible for anyone less than the Emperor
himself. Kurrs waited, he remained
merely adequate in his duties. Doing
enough to remain distinctive and valuable but not enough to be transferred out
of his post. He knew that something
was going to happen, and that it was going to happen aboard the Chimaera.
And it came in the form of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Grand Admiral Thrawn proved something to Kurrs.
That it was possible to resurrect the Empire.
Even though the Grand Admiral was defeated, he showed the galaxy that
there were still superb commanders in the Empire's ranks.
Grand Admiral Thrawn seemed to be one of the last chances for the Empire.
Kurrs Anjek studied the Grand Admiral to the best of his ability while he
served as a bridge crewman. He
recognized the value of his abilities, personified and used so extensively by
the Grand Admiral during his campaign. Psychological
warfare might not be the main path to victory over the Rebels, but it was a
valuable roadmap.
Kurrs stayed aboard the Chimaera during the entirety of the campaign that
the Grand Admiral led. From Grand
Admiral Thrawn's return from the Unknown Regions of the galaxy...
....to his death at the Battle of Bilbringi.
The death of the Grand Admiral was just as devastating as the loss of the
Emperor and Lord Vader. But, it was
not as painful or debilitating. The
Empire still existed. It survived
even after the death of its greatest hope for survival.
Kurrs knew the Empire would survive, that it would win.
After the death of the Grand Admiral, Kurrs realized that so many
commanders neglected the abilities and benefits of Psy-Ops.
He knew that the only way for Psychological warfare to be implemented
into combat against the Rebels was for him to bring it into the war.
The only way for him to do that was to gain his own command.
Kurrs began to do his job to an exemplary degree.
He applied time after time for promotion and transfer for a command.
He worked diligently for almost four years, and then finally he received
a promotion to Commander and a transfer.
He was transferred to Caidia for the first time in almost a decade he was
returned home.
To await his first true command.
