Medals and Awards

Commendation: An official written mention in a character's files about the well-done job, performed under difficult circumstances. Enough commendations and a character may be decorated or promoted.

Decoration: An official notice that the character has performed beyond the call of duty or in a heroic way, usually under fire. No one gets a medal for datawork. A decoration is a physical token, usually a metal pin, often festooned with ribbons and accompanies by a letter of commendation and ribbon for day-to-day wear. The actual medal is only worn on formal occasions.

Decorations, approximately lowest to highest:

Palpatine Cluster (Academy graduates with high class standings) - This award was given by the Empire to those individuals from the Imperial Academy and the multitude of SAGroups who distinguished themselves academically.

Service Awards (From the TIE Fighter game, probably one level per successful campaign)
Medal of Redemption - A first-level award given to Imperial pilots.
Medal of Unity - A second-level award given to Imperial pilots.
Medal of Progress - A third-level award given to Imperial pilots.
Medal of Order - A fourth-level award given to Imperial pilots.
Medal of Loyalty - A fifth-level award given to Imperial pilots.
Medal of Destiny - A sixth-level award given to Imperial pilots.

Distinguished Flight Medal (Ship Pilots, TIE Pilots) - An Imperial Naval award given to outstanding pilots.

Medal of Conspicuous Gallantry (Ship Pilots, TIE Pilots) - This award was given by the Empire to distinguished Imperial Navy pilots who served above and beyond the call of duty. Example: Sularus Brenn, an Imperial TIE Fighter pilot, had 43 confirmed kills while penetrating New Republic space during the Galactic Civil War, earning him the Medal of Conspicuous Gallantry.

Atrisian Order of the Nine Stars (Army) - This was one of the highest forms of decoration awarded to the members of the Atrisian Royal Corps. Note: The Atrisian Royal Corps later formed the basis for the Imperial Army Atrisian Corps so that decoration would still be in Imperial Army use.

Medallion of Honor (Any) - This award was given by the Old Republic to those individuals who distinguished themselves during the Clone Wars. Considering the Imperial miltitary is a direct descendent of the Old Republic military, there could still be holders of this medallion in Imperial service. Traditionalists might consider this higher on the list.

Imperial Medal of Valor (Appears to be a close-combat commando-type medal) - This Imperial award was presented to those warriors who put their own pain and injuries aside in order to eradicate Alliance forces. Example I: Stormtrooper platoon commander Kyle Katarn was awarded the Medal of Valor for his part in securing asteroid AX-456. Example II: Modigal Glave was sent to scout the Ishanna System during the height of the New Order. He served under the command of Governor Klime. A seasoned Imperial commando, Glave was a veteran of of thirty or more heated battles before he was assigned to Klime. His face was severely damaged in a battle on Kestos Minor, when a blaster bolt shattered his helmet. The resulting explosion drove dura-armor fragments into his face, but he managed to ignore the pain and subdue the Alliance forces there. This event got him promoted into an elite group of troopers who were destined to become the Imperial Storm Commandos, and earned him the Imperial Medal of Valor.

Distinguished Medal of Imperial Honor (Any) - This Imperial award was presented to those officers who displayed extreme heroism and bravery in the heat of battle. Example: One was awarded to an Imperial ISD Captain by a Grand Admiral for heroism in the face of an attack on an Alliance-held planet.

Hero of the Empire (Any) - This was an award presented to those individuals who performed bravely in the service of the Empire.

Emperor's Will, The (Any) - The highest of all service medals presented by the Empire, the Emperor's Will was given to those who risked their own lives to save that of Emperor Palpatine.

Some Admirals may create their own medals as well. Examples are:

Oradin Diamond (TIE pilots, unit award) - Created by Admiral Lon Isoto (in charge of Brentaal's planetary defense in the Core Worlds), this medal was given to the pilots of the 181st Imperial Fighter Group, which helped defend the planet Brentaal from the early efforts of the New Republic to take the planet. Similar in design to the Vuultin Starburst, the Diamond had an organic look to its red, heart-like center and gold flares. (Note: Might still be used by the ISFC to award pilots of an entire squadron for particulary successful and valuable missions, like successfully defending a planet from being taken).

Vuultin Starburst (TIE pilot, individual award) - This unusual medal was created by Admiral Lon Isoto, in honor of the efforts of the 181st Imperial Fighter Group in defending Brentaal from attack by the New Republic. It was organic in form, with a red, heart-like center and several gold and bronze flares. The first of these Starbursts was awarded to Turr Phennir. (Note: Might still be used by the ISFC to award squadron commanders for particularly successful and valuable missions, like successfully defending a planet from being taken).

Payscale and Rewards

The following information assumes an active command group leader (Lord Admiral) who possesses full support of High Command. Without access to sector funding the government-scale salary and rewards are not available.

Rank Monthly Salary Command
0. Lord Admiral Executive Funding Head of Military Command
1. Grand Admiral Executive Funding ? Armada CO & Fleet Commander
2. High Admiral 3,000 Credits Armada XO & Fleet Commander
3. Fleet Admiral 2,500 Credits Fleet Commander
4. Vice Admiral 2,000 Credits Squadron Commander
5. Line Captain 1,500 Credits Line Commander
6. Captain 1,250 Credits Capital Warship Commander

Monthly Salary is an accumulating government-scale credit allowance that can be used to purchase new ships, modifications and crew training. It can only be drawn with the permission of the Lord Admiral of Military Command. Only ships under an officer's Permanent Command (i.e. the officer's initial ship and any later ships that have been bought using this account) may be modified. Temporary Command ships may not be modified with funds from this account.

Bonuses and Penalties to Monthly Salaries
[GM Note: This policy dates back to 1996-97. It was never officially removed from Imperial policy so I'm under the impression it is still available.]

Bonuses:

*If you take a planet INTACT (that means no damage anywhere to the planet's surface or facilities) then you get a bonus equal to twice the value of that planet.

*If you take a planet but there is some degree of damage to it (enough that something must be repaired) then you get a bonus equal to half the value of that planet.

*If you capture any ships during the battle then you get bonus equal to the average value of all the ships you captured.

*If you win a battle without any losses you get a bonus equal to the average value of all the ships under your command.

Penalties:

*If you lose a battle with 40% casualties or less and fail to take control of the planet, you will receive a penalty equal to half the value of the planet you failed to take.

*If you lose a battle with 50% casualties or more and fail to take control of the planet, you will receive a penalty equal to twice the value of the planet you failed to take.

*If you lose any ships during battle you will receive a penalty equal to the average value of the ships you lost in battle.

Conditions for Bonuses and Penalties

Bonuses:

In order to official take control of a planet you must have total control. That means your troops have set up a garrison base on the world, no rebels are running around lose on the world, and you have some sort of defense force in space.

In order to officially win a battle you must

a.) Eliminate at least 50% of all the enemies' small ships (Corvettes, Gunships, Frigates etc.)
b.) Eliminate at least 30% of all the enemies' medium ships (Assault Frigates, Bulk Cruisers, Victory SD's)
c.) Eliminate at least 2 large ships (MC80s or greater)

When I mean "eliminate" I mean destroy or capture. You don't have to take a planet to win a space battle.

-Penalties:

Let me get one thing clear. I don't give penalties to everyone all the time. If you play well and put your soul into your performance and if it's good but you just can't pull it off; no big deal. I won't give you a penalty. I only give them if you do something really stupid that could have been easily avoided and I get rather angry. That rarely happens around here so I don't expect to penalize anyone anytime soon.
